I work with Cornish businesses (pre-starts, startups and established) to identify and facilitate business growth opportunities. I connect them with a variety of funded support programs and undertake research to provide alternative, niche sources of support and business intelligence.

Research & Campaign for Change worker
-
Nov 2015 - Oct 2016
I am volunteering for CAB helping to build evidence of social policy issues and bad practice to support campaigns for change across the UK. I help advisers identify social policy cases from the work they are doing with clients. I record information about a client's situation regarding the social policy issues and I quality check similar records that the advisers have submitted. I monitor trends in bureau enquiries, to identify issues for potential local or national campaign work and I provide evidence for social change campaigns. Recent campaigns have included tighter regulations for Payday lenders and persuading the government to increase the support available for childcare costs from 70 per cent to 85 per cent for low income families on universal credit. Business Engagement Service (GAIN and Peninsula City Deal Growth Hub)
-
Jan 2014 - Jul 2015
I set up and managed the Business Engagement Service and its advisors for the GAIN project (Growth Acceleration and Investment Network) and Peninsula City Deal Growth Hub. Our aim was to understand all of the business support, finance and funding opportunities available locally and nationally for businesses of any size in the Southwest, and help direct companies and entrepreneurs to the help that is most appropriate for them. I created operational partnerships with other support agencies to ensure that the referral process was as smooth as possible for the customer. I analysed captured data to help stakeholders understand the needs of the business community and to keep us on track for targets. Show less

Learning & Information Services Manager
-
Nov 2010 - Dec 2013
I managed the information requirements of the public and staff which involves creating training programmes, ensuring we have the right online databases and keeping everyone informed of political and social changes which may affect the service and our customers needs. Recent initiatives included work clubs and IT sessions. I developed strategic partnerships to help deliver a better range of advice and support to the public. I was responsible for our Europe Direct service and budget for the two years that we hosted it, organising events to fulfill European objectives and offering an enquiry service to answer questions on any aspect of the EU. I have developed and delivered our Patlib service to help SMEs and start-ups with their intellectual property. Assisting with infringement and prior art searches and increasing the awareness of IP and Patlib amongst other support organisations around the Southwest. As a result of winning some funding, I expanded awareness of IP and Patlib throughout the Southwest. I managed the Health Information project, promoting health resources to assist with prevention, early intervention and managing health conditions. Show less
