I currently work as a Visitor Services Officer across museums in the Canterbury district, predominately based at The Beaney House of Art and Knowledge, Art Fund Museum of the Year finalist for 2013. My key responsibilities and tasks include: - Day to day management of the work placement programme, handling queries, applications and placements. I have direct responsibility for students whilst on placement, as well as coordinating other members of staff for shadowing arrangements and liaising directly with schools to provide feedback on students. - Delivering informative and enthusiastic tours ranging from 45 to 90 minutes for up to 30 visitors across the museum. - Managing visitor enquiries through the visitor information desk, including making reservations with external organisations, liaising with colleagues in other museums and galleries, and providing general tourist information. - Enhancing the visitor experience by delivering object handling sessions for families, interacting informally in galleries, working with colleagues to deliver events such as birthday parties, and promoting special exhibitions. - Cash management across The Beaney by closing tills at the end of the day and following Council procedures for cashing up. - Museum security, following procedures for opening and closing museum buildings to the public both independently and with colleagues. Based at Dover Castle in the Secret Wartime Tunnels, I worked as part of a team of 15, with tasks including: - Delivering tours of the Secret Wartime Tunnels to the general public, tour parties and educational groups of up to 30 visitors. - Ensuring that health and safety regulations were met and maintained. - Providing excellent customer service through actively assisting visitors and answering queries about the site, merchandise, education facilities and the local area. - Promoting the English Heritage brand and products including membership schemes and guidebooks. - Carrying out housekeeping tasks including checking for potential hazards and maintaining cleanliness across the site.
