Core role is to review, assess, gatekeeper and process requests for communication data lawfully using RIPA. Will act as direct conduit between senior officers, investigators and the communication service providers. Providing expert advice, guidance and recommendations (Covert advice and planning) to senior investigative officers, Superintendent Cadre and investigators in relation to the correct procedures for accessing communications data. To assist with the communications strategy, by including its availability, its use and how it may assist an enquiry, in accordance with the legislative provisions and disclosure.Acquire, develop, analyse, and disseminate communications data.Facilitate the “live time” management of threat in respect of serious and organised criminal offences. To advise on investigative opportunities, providing “live time” advice on the most effective course of action. Monitor and maintain corporate standards in the acquisition of communications data, in accordance with RIPA, ECHR, DPA, guidance of the Home Office Data Communications Group and the Interception of Communications Inspectorate.Detailed knowledge of how Human Rights legislation, the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act and the Data Protection Act impacts on the gathering, recording and dissemination of communications data, and the decision making therein.

Assess, review and validate the grade of all incidents received and amend if necessary in accordance with working practices.Carry out high quality and timely research from various internal and external sources in relation to active incidents.
