Whilst at the University of Nottingham Chris was a pleasure to work with to help involve alumni volunteers in the Formula Student project. He was fantastic with helping with relationship development and linking alumni volunteering their time to student projects in a useful and practical way.

I’ve known Chris since 2013 in a number of roles; as a university lecturer when I was a student, a team member on Formula Student, and more recently as an industry peer. As a lecturer Chris has a vast knowledge and experience to share in a passionate teaching style. He cares about students education, explaining topics in different ways to ensure everyone understood, or always being available outside of lectures to discuss topics further. Throughout Formula Student and again in industry Chris is incredibly hard working and dedicated, where he is always pushing and motivating the teams to successfully get cars to the event. We couldn’t have got the 2015 Derby Uni car to the event without his support and encouragement. It’s been a pleasure knowing Chris over the years, he provided some of my most memorable University lectures, and showed the same passion and enthusiasm when Lubrizol and Nottingham University connected.

Department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering, within the Faculty of Engineering. My main focus for the department was the design, development, delivery and assessment of Undergraduate and MSc level Design modules within the Mechanical Engineering programme. As part of the delivery team, I used my industry links and experience to help ensure the course content was current and relevant to students contributing in high levels of graduate outcomes/destinations. Other duties included; Manager for the University Racing Team including the Formula Student and Solar Challenge Teams. I was responsible for the supervision of around 80 undergraduate students for their individual and group based projects, communication with all project partners and liaison for all sponsorship and technical partnerships within the teams portfolio. The Formula Student project operated from concept and planning to fully working prototype on a 12 month cycle – developing the product and focusing of preperformance and efficiency each year. The main focus was to provide the students with a rich learning environment and making them valuable real world engineers upon graduation. The positive feedback from students, employers and Senior Managers was rewarding and extremely motivational. The University of Nottingham Formula Student Team placed; 1st Electric Vehicle, 2nd Vehicle Designed for that year event and 3rd overall in the 2021 event - Nottingham's highest ever placing.

Away from the track I was the team’s design / development engineer working on a variety of engineering projects including re-engineering of historic Formula one and sports prototypes. Development projects included drafting and high technology re-manufacturing of many components making extensive use of my Solidworks experience.During race weekends my roles included Engineer and Mechanic for the Le Mans Endurance Series GT team operating a GT2 Porsche (996 and 997 GT3 RSR). I also coordinated the logistics for both testing and races. My role during race weekends was lead mechanic as well as managing the crew, equipment and general garage operation.

Within the Advanced Projects development team I was responsible for the testing and developing of a Heavy Duty Common Rail Diesel Fuel Injection System. I organised and oversaw the build and complete system development from test rig to prototype engine installation – working with both internal and external customers. My duties included the management of system test rigs, design and analysis of all testing programs and due to the high profile nature of the project, constant reporting / updating to management on project status. During the course of an advanced development project, I was part of multiple patent applications and I was granted a European patent involving injection nozzle design.
