Working with Chris was a pleasure. I was his technical supervisor and next-door neighbor while we worked together. His theoretical and practical organic chemistry skills are very well developed and showed in his work. He was often given a new direction to develop ideas and consistently provided valuable & intriguing "molecular design" answers to problems in monomers, surfactants, and other intermediates & products for the specialty chemicals markets of Solvay's Novecare business. I highly recommend him.
Michael Schreuder
Chris and I worked together at Tetramer Technologies. Chris was a hard working synthetic organic chemist that guided me (a physical chemist) through several challenging multi-step syntheses. He designed several unique nanoparticle ligands, aided me in planning out their various synthetic steps, and proposed alternate routes for difficult or low yield steps. Chris was also a pleasure to work next to on a interpersonal level and we had many good conversations.

Designed and synthesized monomers, polymers and nanoparticle ligands in conducting research and development of advanced materials for commercial applications. I mainly worked on a the develpment of optical coatings for high-power lasers. This work involved solving very difficult synthetic and design challenges to produce a material with the proper thermal and optical properties, which we ultimately did achieve. Invented receptors for the extraction of sulfate from aqueous solution into aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent. In general, I conducted research designing and synthesizing organic receptors for the selective separation of specific ions from complex mixtures. I developed synthetic methods as needed to access target molecules. Invented receptors for the extraction of sulfate from aqueous solution into aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent. Doctoral student with Tim Glass working in the areas of molecular recognition and fluorescent chemical sensing. Primarily, I developed artificial receptors for lipids. These receptors exhibit shape selective recognition of unbranched, unsaturated lipids with accompanying fluorescent response. Research in the Glass group was focused on molecular design and understanding structure-property relationships, however in practice it was synthesis intensive as roughly 90% of time was spent conducting multi-step synthesis using modern synthetic chemistry techniques and methods.
