I work at all different sporting events as a team with other student workers, helping set up and break down the events. During games, I either check the guests' tickets and answer questions, work on the sidelines to ensure the games run smoothly, or help the visiting teams and officials with anything they need. There are many unpredictable factors that play a role in the games which I have learned to be prepared for. For example, the weather, time changes due to transportation of officials or visiting teams, issues with equipment, and annoyed guests. Show less

Before and after the weddings, I set up the event and then cleaned it up after which helped me become meticulous while cleaning and organizing. Every wedding had its own pre-wedding packet with important content that I had to memorize. There was a cocktail hour before the wedding for which I walked around serving food on a plater. I had to memorize the dishes and what was in them for allergy purposes. Then during the wedding, I verified guests’ orders, served guests their food, and cleaned up after they were done eating. When serving food my boss would read off the dishes quickly before sending us out with the food, so I had to pay attention and listen well. While out on the floor I had to have a smile on my face while staying alert and ready to help guests. Many of the guests were not pleasant to talk to and extremely picky, which helped me improve my customer service skills. Show less

I worked here all of high school and have run their summer camp the past 2 summers as head counselor. At this job, I taught children ages 3-15 gymnastics in classes that ranged in size and skill set. I had to motivate and encourage my students individually and as a group to create a team that worked hard and motivated each other. In addition, I had to be alert and prepared for emergencies, as children can be unpredictable and equipment in the gym can be dangerous if used improperly. I often had to collaborate with other teachers as well to make sure classes ran smoothly. Sometimes I also work in the office by talking to parents and inputting information on the computer. This job taught me a lot, but the most important thing I learned was patience and perseverance. Children are not easy to deal with, especially in groups. I must be extremely patient and understanding while teaching and each student is different, so I used a lot of creativity and problem-solving to help each student. Since I started working there, I have also received a raise twice due to higher-ranking employees noticing the effort and enthusiasm I brought to the job. Show less
