I hired and supervised Chloe Lawson for a position with the State of Indiana, Department of Natural Resources, Lake Michigan Coastal Program. Chloe started as the Coastal Grants Program Assistant in May 2011, and I have asked her to continue her employment with the Program through Spring 2012. Chloe came highly recommended to me by a well known and influential local non-profit organization, Save the Dunes. Chloe has had a direct positive impact on the Coastal Grants Program. She not only completed her regular duties, which were to assess project sites and develop communication tools but she initiated several other projects as well. The quality of her work was acknowledged by our federal sponsor (NOAA) staff, executive level management within the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, and by our 22 member stakeholder board that includes representatives from Federal, State, Regional and local agencies and organizations. As a direct result of her work on the LMCP’s first online project mapping tool, she has been asked by others within the Agency to assist in the development of other mapping tools. Most importantly our partners now have immediate access to high quality up to date information regarding our projects. Chloe has a strong understanding and knowledge of the science and technology of the environmental resources field, she also incredible grasp of the policy issues and needs that affect the future of the field. While employed by the Indiana DNR she has shown maturity and demonstrated a strong work ethic. She understood the tasks at hand and worked well within the time constraints we imposed on her. I trust that any project that she is delegated will be completed on-time, be professional and useful, and will include her amazing creativity.
