I had to opportunity to participate in the Leadership Howard County Leadership U program this school year which is a highly selective program for juniors in my community to develop leadership skills, networking skills, and develop community service projects. There is one cohort of 50 juniors who I had to opportunity to work with, which was then divided into 8 teams each focusing on a different need in our community. I was placed into the team focusing on schools and ways to better our education system. We developed a crash source seminar for middle schoolers around our county to expose them to things in high school that no one necessarily tells you about such as the different career academies offered, social opportunities, and extracurriculars. I had the ability to network with many different organizations such as the Howard County General Hospital Howard Community College, and Bridgeway Community Church. I went through multicultural bias training which truly helped me to limit my bias and understand the different backgrounds people come from. Show less
