    • Chineke! Foundation
      • Apr 2015 - Present

The Chineke! Foundation is a non-profit organisation which has been established to provide outstanding career opportunities to young Black, Asian & ethnically diverse classical musicians in the UK and Europe. Chineke! 'champions change and celebrates diversity in classical music', and we aim to be a catalyst for change in the industry. Initially, this is being achieved through the establishment of Europe’s first majority Black, Asian & ethnically diverse orchestra, composed of exceptional musicians from across the continent. Closely linked to this initiative is a Junior Orchestra (11-22yrs), drawn mainly from State school children, some who have benefitted from existing youth schemes such as the LMM, MYFM, In Harmony El Sistema, as well as Junior music colleges, specialist music schools and various annual competitions. As an integral part of the Chineke! project, it is envisaged that senior players will act as mentors, teachers and role models to these young musicians. As well as realigning the general public’s perceptions, our concerts and events surrounding them aim to prove to Black, Asian & ethnically diverse communities that their musicians, both current and future, belong at the heart of classical music life, and as such is being backed by key cultural organisations such as Arts Council England, Conservatoires UK, Trusts & Foundations, Charities, Individual supporters and Southbank Centre, as well as leading figures such as Sir Simon Rattle and Lord Ed Vaizey, MP. Supporting the Chineke! Foundation represents a unique opportunity for organisations such as Help Musicians UK to help pave a path for a section of our society which remains almost unrepresented in classical music. In this way, you are not merely helping to establish yet another orchestra, scholarship or outreach programme, but providing the world with a glimpse of what the future of classical music could look like.
