2021 Cohort • Research mentor: Dr. Joanne Burnett • Research project: “A diarist in Controversy: Understanding feminism through Confessional Writing as seen in the journals of Anaïs Nin.” This research analyzes feminism through confessional writing by focusing on Anais Nin’s journals, using The Diary of Anaïs Nin, Volume One 1931-1934 and, Incest, From A Journal of Love, The Unexpurgated Diary of Anaïs Nin, 1932-1934. By focusing on Nin's impact in the 1960s and the public's reaction after publishing her unexpurgated journals in the 1990s, the research explores how Nin’s diaries can help us understand the contemporary politics of feminism.
