Cherri was my pre-calculus and calculus teacher at Englewood High School. I am currently pursuing a career in education and Cherri has been a huge influence that helped me make that decision. I saw the impact she had on her students and everyone around her as a mathematics teacher and I knew that I wanted to do the same for future students. She teaches with passion and has stronger content knowledge than any high school math teacher I have encountered. She always puts her students first and she truly believes that all of her students will succeed. Many American students struggle with mathematics and lack the confidence needed to change that trend. Cherri fights against that with her drive, passion, and a love fore mathematics. I am lucky that I was placed in her class and I will used what I learned from her as I shape my educational philosophy.

Just accepted an offer from Golden High School and will be teaching there and part of their instructional leadership team. I'm sad to leave Jefferson but excited to be starting this new adventure in my career in education. Taught geometry through AP Calculus AB to high school students. Student body is 88% Hispanic and 88% free and reduced lunch. Low achieving school on probabtion for poor test scores. Raised college level ready rate on ACT Math from 13% to 19%!! I taught nearly every junior whose scores raised the college level readiness in mathematics rate in 2013. Instructional Leader for math this upcoming school year. Taught geometry through AP Calculus AB to high school students. Student body is 88% Hispanic and 88% free and reduced lunch. Classes taught included Algebra II, Math Topics, Precalculus, AP Calculus AB & BC, and Intensive Honors Algebra II/Honors Precalculus. Began Mathematics Honors Society including participation in mathematics competitions within Colorado. Developed and organized Pi Week activities which increased excitement for math among students and has become a major tradition. Created and sponsored "The Nerd Herd",a singing/dancing group of math students that promote mathematics. Offered first AP Calculus AB class (6 students in 2008) at EHS which grew to 24 students in 2010-2011 and the school will have it's first AP Calc BC class in 2011-2012! In general, I was instrumental in creating a culture at EHS which was far more enthusiastic about mathematics than what was there when I arrived. On any given day in the hallways at EHS one can find a plethora of students wearing "I <3 Math" t-shirts. Show less

I had the pleasure of helping open the only all girls Jesuit high school in North America and developing a traditional mathematics program that incorporated research based teaching strategies successful with adolescent girls. Established a Mu Alpha Theta Math Honors Society and served as department chair. School opened with freshmen & a few sophomores. Each year a new freshmen class was added. In my time there I taught every math class offered. I created curriculum for a probability and statistics math class and created college board approved outlines for AP Calculus AB & BC and AP Statistics. Show less
