During my time working on placement, for college, within the Limerick youth service I encouraged young people to actively participate through developing participation and learning whilst working alongside young people in planning, delivery, and evaluation of the activities provided. I also ran an anti-bullying project which lasted a duration of four weeks involving a collection of mindfulness /mediation methods and multiple creative interventions involving a group of teen girls within the service, age being (14+), with the overall aim of the project to help instill self-empowerment and highlight the power of advocacy and what it can produce when practiced, not only when carrying it out for oneself, but others too. During the course of my time there I was fortunate enough to be able to link in past times and hobbies that I found interesting and use them when in a group or facilitating one- on one session such as baking and cooking. I would prepare meals for mid-evening lunch and afternoon group sessions. I also had the experience of supervising and monitoring the safety of the young people within my care whilst assisting them home after group sessions, on outdoor trips away, or daily outings to the park or cinema . During my time working within this organization my primary role was to help teachers prepare for lessons by gathering and preparing materials for one- on one or small groups . The orientation of these groups would focus on anger management, mediation and meditation. I provided one- on one personal homework assistance to those whom sought during the evening. During school hours of a Wednesday and Thursday I had the opportunity to independently facilitate a youth group whom of which had varies learning disabilities by practising mediation and meditation techniques, extra learning support, emotional awarness and mindfullness excercises and anger management.
