This opportunity is affording me the privilege to work with all members of our learning community to concept, design, and build out a new signature learning experience for all students at Sheridan focused on key qualities of self awareness and development. This bold new model embraces innovations from psychological, sociological, and technological sciences to foster a self discovery and enhancement experience that is authentic and transformative. This experience will expand to include staff and faculty so that all members of Sheridan’s learning and creating communities will collectively empower these qualities in themselves and in others to create a learning ecosystem at Sheridan that fosters everyone’s highest potentials. My main priority was to create and to implement a new vision for faculty development - one that was driven by contemporary best practices and our signature learning outcomes of a Sheridan learning experience. Using a variety of approaches, I worked with colleagues from across our campuses and Faculties to elevate our collective discussions about teaching and learning, and to change the narrative about faculty development to a practitioner-researcher model. This involved a great deal of relationship-building, revamping the faculty development curriculum, writing new policies and procedures, aligning institutional and Faculty learning priorities with meaningful technological platforms, and elevating the ways in which we acknowledge and celebrate excellence in teaching and learning (via a new awards framework and an annual scholarly event). This also involved the merger of educational development and educational technologies. In this role, I devoted a significant amount of time consulting on our approaches to universities and colleges across the globe via presentations and invited guest speaker events. Show less

Centre for Teaching Support & Innovation I lead the design and implementation of a new pan-institutional model for assessing teaching and learning that leveraged innovative technologies within U of T's enterprise systems. With colleagues from across our Faculties, I designed a cascaded evaluation framework that focused on core teaching and learning priorities for the U of T experience and then worked with faculty to articulate the specialized learning priorities of their disciplines within the Faculties. This work fostered an institutional shift in the focus of teaching and learning “excellence” and a strong collaborative relationship with the personal-insights solutions company eXplorance to develop a supporting technological evaluation platform. As our model garnered international attention, I consulted, and continue to advise, other higher education institutions world-wide who are seeking to elevate their understanding of the impact of their teaching, learning, and development approaches.
