Joseph is an engaging mentor. Though I was not his direct report at Breakthrough, I spent a lot of time getting to know him. His various involvements at his schools (for instance, directing plays at Rice University) prove that he is committed to the ideas and goals of serious mentorship, and those involvements also give him plenty of interesting, fun stories to share with anyone who's around. Lastly, Joseph is quick to listen but not quick to be judgmental, an essential characteristic when helping others.

Joseph Lockett and I collaborated on theatrical productions at Rice University. At the time, I was the student producer, and Joseph was the volunteer director. Joseph worked exceptionally well with the university students, treating them as colleagues while also providing guidance and mentorship. He balanced skillful leadership with the creation of a collaborative learning environment for students. It was a pleasure to work with him.
