Avian Intern

As an avian intern I worked in the breeding program for the highly endangered Attwater's Prairie Chicken- a native grouse species. This included work such as: diet prep and daily feeding routines, cleaning of equipment and enclosures, visual observation of birds which lead to daily assesments and treatments with the vetrinary staff, recording embyonic and chick development, and creating a written report of seasonal data for future use. In addition, we helped with the capture and tagging of birds to be released by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. During my time with Fossil Rim Wildlife Center I was also able to shadow other departments such as carnivore and hoffstock, as well as sit in on vetinary procedures held on property. Show less
