Acute Care/Inpatient setting: - Demonstrate willingness to learn, participate in professional development, and adapt to new and changing environments; collaborated in a multidisciplinary environment with professionals in various medical areas including radiology, dietetics, neurology, psychology, and respiration therapy. - Administer Clinical Bedside Assessments; complete oral mechanism examinations, administer bolus trials, assess swallowing ability and for signs of aspiration, and propose recommendations for objective testing such as Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Studies (VFSS) and Flexible Endoscopic Evaluations of Swallowing (FEES). - Assist with VFSS in Radiology; administer barium boluses, observe for oral and pharyngeal signs of dysphagia, analyze results (in real-time and recorded studies), and propose recommendations based on findings. - Aid with FEES; mix and administer dyed bolus consistencies, observe for oral and pharyngeal dysphagia, analyze swallowing, for penetration and aspiration (in real-time and recorded studies), and propose recommendations based on findings. - Review relevant articles, text, and videos to increase proficiency in the evaluation and treatment of dysphagia, aphasia, dysarthria, voice disorders, traumatic brain injury, Passy Muir Valves, and other applicable areas of study. - Participate in language evaluations for patients with aphasia, anoxic brain injuries, and various cognitive/functional communication impairments. - Assist with therapy related to dysphagia, voice disorders, alternative and augmentative communication, and language impairments.
