School Counseling Intern

I had the pleasure of interning in the Union-Endicott Guidance Counseling office under the direct supervision of Marty Wyckoff through a practicum internship. The experiences I have been able to have are invaluable and I am incredibly grateful to be able to share this time of my life. Mr. Wyckoff gave me the freedom to lead one-on-one meetings with rising seniors, as well as present to classes of students and present a schedule-building workshop for the following year. I have been able to participate in Response to Intervention meetings, in which students are monitored on their grades and attendance and are evaluated by a team of volunteer staff to create goals to better their academic experience. I have also been able to go on a home visit with the school social worker and assistant principal. I have also sat in on National Honor Society interviews, and discussions with families, law enforcement and outside case workers to monitor student safety. The student-body of Union-Endicott is very diverse, which interests me greatly. The students often have baggage that they bring to school and there is a large population of students being raised by their grandparents due to parent incarceration or substance abuse. I hope to work in a school similar to Union-Endicott because the extracurricular experiences are wonderful and I love how the school is run. Show less
