At this church I am the first call back up drummer. Unlike other churches, I run the Mac book for the backing tracks. We have two services and there are generally different sets for the two services. so we usually learn 6 different songs. At this church I am the first call back up drummer. • Pianist / drummer

I started out playing drum set for this church right when covid started easing up and I subbed every once in a while until they found out that I played keyboard. Now I play keyboard nearly every Sunday on the worship team and learn new songs weekly. If the piano has a very prominent part in the song I learn it exactly like the recording. I also learn the melody of the song to help singers find the key and learn harmonies. Sometimes the key doesn’t work for the singers voice so I have to transpose what I’ve already learned into a new key on the spot. I also have to provide music behind talking and praying. We use mainstage to run sounds for the keyboard so I spend time tweaking my sound to match songs. Show less

I started out in Baton Rouge playing at this church for their acoustic service. I basically played a cajon percussion kit. Later on, the contemporary worship leader lost their drummer so they switched me over to the contemporary service. When covid hit we started an acoustic trio live stream where I played the cajon percussion kit set up and sang harmonies with the acoustic guitarist and the lead singer. By the time Covid started to subside I had already found a new church to play at. Now I occasionally sub in at Broadmoor. Show less

    • Youth Band Director
      • Aug 2019 - Present

I am currently the youth band director for Broadmoor methodist church. This is a praise and worship band for middle and high school students. I recruit students from the church or other churches and hold band rehearsals once a week. I print chord charts and prepare binders for us to use in rehearsals. If a member is missing I cover what ever instrument they played such as drums, piano, bass, or guitar. If a certain key doesn't work I usually have to sight transpose the song and communicate the chord changes to the students while we play or write them down. We usually prepare songs to play for worship service when the worship leader for the church invites us to play. Show less

Every year I am contracted for their Holiday Brass ensemble where we travel around Baton Rouge and the surrounding area to play Christmas tunes. I play a lot of keyboard percussion and drum set on these gigs. I have also played in their production of The Nutcracker. I am a regular sub at the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. For this position I started out taking over elementary music for a teach that went on maternity leave. I instructed Pre K through 4th grade classes daily on various music topics including music history, music theory, Orff lessons, recorders and various school programs. I also directed a musical put on by the 2nd through 4th grade classes. In preparation for the programs I frequently had to conduct rehearsals in which I accompanied the students on the piano. When the maternity leave ended I frequently subbed for music and other classes including PE and Special Needs. Over the summer I was hired to teach private piano lessons then hired full time for the school year. During the school year I managed a roster of around 35 private piano lessons students ranging from Pre K4 to high school. I had to use chord charts and transcribe various songs on muse score for the advanced students and worked through method books with the beginner and intermediate students. I also taught a high school percussion class 4 days a week in which we worked on drum line cadences to prepare for foot ball games and pep rallies. I also transcribed songs for the drum line to play with the pep band's bass player. In addition we worked on concert percussion to prepare for the Christmas concert. Along with these responsibilities I lead worship for the middle school chapel service. I was charged with picking songs that fit with the message for the service and rehearse the group which consisted of student singers and faculty instrumentalists. If there was a teacher unavailable I would fill in on the particular instrument that was missing. I also had to program the lyrics into ProPresenter, set up the stage, and run all the instruments into the sound system. Show less

    • Music Educator
      • Aug 2020 - Aug 2022

At this organization I was hired as the “Pro Teacher”. The idea behind it was to change the format of private lessons. With the help of assistants I taught music lessons on Drums, piano, Guitar, bass, ukulele, and voice. The students would come in for and hour lesson and I would get them started for about 15 mins while the assistant shadowed me, so they could see what the student needed to focus on. The assistant then took over the lesson for 15 mins while I worked with another student and assistant. I would then rotate between multiple rooms at about 15 min intervals and instruct the student on what to work on and guide the assistant on how to help them. Basically each student received 30 mins personal time with me and 30 mins with an assistant. I also taught a rock band class in which I would write songs that would suit the particular group’s skill level. I would always get input from the students to help me write the songs. I frequently wrote chord charts and transcribed parts for various instruments including keyboard, drums, and guitar. We performed 2 concerts a year and held week long summer camps. In addition to teaching I had to schedule students lesson slots, find assistants and schedule them. Show less

As director of the percussion ensemble my job was to recruit members for the group by reaching out and networking with various schools in the area. I would then hold auditions to survey the talent level of my students and select music appropriate to their skill level. I held weekly rehearsals for the group to prepare us for concerts. We had 3 concerts a year. As director of the percussion ensemble my job was to recruit members for the group by reaching out and networking with various schools in the area. In this role I would teach a group music lesson to around 10-15 students 4 times a week. Our focus was general music education through percussion. I would teach the students basic technique and music theory. In addition we would learn a song or two together to perform for our concerts. I would either arrange or compose these pieces. During covid we switched to an online format via zoom. For this season I used various pieces of music technology to engage with the students. I would run an electronic drum pad through my computer to play percussion and drum sounds via Logic to make the lessons more exciting. I would also use my keyboard to record midi accompaniment for them as well. In order to teach them to read notation I frequently wrote exercises on muse score and would screen share it to my students so we could play along. We would have 2 concerts a year but for the covid season we had to execute our performance differently. I wrote a 2 part piece with muse score and recorded accompaniment tracks. We called each student individually to the main office to record video and audio individually with an iPhone and a focusrite and condenser mics. Then spliced it all together with iMovie and presented it through a live streamed concert. Show less
