My daily duties involved challenging underperformance while building self-esteem and confidence though a rapport based on trust, honesty and respect with my students, of which there were over 200 in my care every academic year! Data analysis was also a key element of my role, interpreting monthly assessment and attendance statistics to determine which students must be prioritised. I liaised with parents, teachers, heads of department and senior managers to support, challenge and motivate students in all aspects of their learning journeys. Tutorials were delivered to classes of students on a termly basis, so I was still able to revisit my teaching experience on a regular basis. Each academic year, I offered careers guidance to those in their final year of Further Education, helping students applying to university, or those seeking employment or an apprenticeship. Helping students in the latter category could involved contacting external agencies, meeting with employers and helping students navigate the application process. I enjoyed working on the college’s VLE (Moodle) to develop informative and engaging resources to benefit students and staff. Additional elements of my role included representing the college at promotional and information events, interviewing prospective students for each new academic intake, being an active first-aider, and running the college’s student LGBT group.

I enjoyed working with my colleagues to develop engaging and creative course plans and resources, and delivering this lesson content was easily my favourite part of the job.

I also gained a great deal of customer awareness, which aided me when engaging in visual merchandising; a task I undertook on a regular basis to ensure that the store was continually appealing to the eye, as well as aiding in creating a solid turnover. As part of our often hectic working environment, I tried to be as efficient as possible while working alongside my colleagues. Our supportive team ethos on the shop floor created a good atmosphere for customers, while our relaxed yet helpful approach reduced the likelihood that customers might feel pressured or obviously "sold to". We always tried to put the customer first: essential when creating a positive customer experience and building a loyal customer base, which is vital to introduce outdoor enthusiasts to our brand. I was also influential in the running of our IT sector, and both operated and monitored each of the following: electronic point of sale systems; supply chain systems that help to monitor, order and distribute stock; and management information systems that enable retailers to interpret sales data and analyse trends. My day to day tasks included: - Visual merchandising - Dealing with customer concerns - Ensure that each customer received outstanding service by providing a friendly environment, which included greeting and acknowledging every customer, maintaining solid product knowledge and all other aspects of customer service. - Maintaining an awareness of all products and promotions run by rival companies. - Assisting with floor moves, display maintenance, and housekeeping - Loss prevention. - Assist in processing and replenishing merchandise and monitoring floor stock. - Aid customers in locating merchandise. As I was often working alongside a team of four or more other employees, I am comfortable working within large groups of people and am not afraid to undertake a leadership role should the occasion call for one. In this role I studied good health and safety practices, basic first aid, EXPERT customer service, and further job-specific modules including footwear and footwear fitting. I also received training from a number of industry professionals including Berghaus, The North Face, Shock Absorber and Mammut. Show less

Darlington, United Kingdom Working as kitchen and waiting staff at Number Twenty-Two’s allowed me to further my previous experience in the catering industry. I would begin my shift by tidying the food preparation areas and laying tables. We had a number of regular customers who would visit the establishment every week, and so serving these clients would be a highlight of each shift, as it allowed me to socialise and make new friends while still performing efficiently within my role.
