Producing a digital platform for sustainability startup, TreeHub. TreeHub looks to connect landowners, open to re-purposing their land for reforestation, with funding from carbon offsetting projects. My research helped me understand the motivations of their user base and led to the design of a landing page and a ‘calculator’ function designed to educate landowners on carbon offsetting projects and estimate their potential ROI from reforestation. - Competitor/ User Research - User Personas/ Affinity Map - User testing - Branding / Logo Design - User Flow / Customer Journey Maps - Wireframing/ Prototyping in Sketch The project was important to me as it tackles sustainability by reducing CO2 in the atmosphere. The role requires me to research, design, and present back to our internal stakeholders, the buying team. The company is fast-paced and demands attention to detail - however even as deadlines pile up and the team is under pressure, my positive attitude and strong internal network ensure we reliably find solutions while managing internal expectations. As well as researching the latest trends, I am renowned in the team for always being an advocate for our New Look customer; I learn how our prints are performing in-store and present this data alongside competitors' analysis to shape the direction of future collections. Buying often challenges the concept of a collection, so it’s critical to be able to articulate why our products are aligned to the New Look customers and will sell well in store. - Catwalk and competitor analysis - Designing in Photoshop and Illustrator - Written and oral communication - Aligning design to strategy - Designing in Photoshop / Illustrator - Prioritisation / Multitasking - Presenting View my full print portfolio on; https://www.charlottehemus.com/print-design Show less

HER is an East London print studio where a small team of in-house designers delivers fresh and exciting prints to leading fashion suppliers. Working to new briefs set each week, I researched, developed and designed prints to fit the specification. Our work was always catwalk driven but demanded an exciting interpretation of trends to ensure our designs were inspired yet original. As a studio, HER pride themselves on exploring new techniques and playing with the process; meaning I was encouraged to experiment with diverse print layouts, ranging from patchwork, to mark-making and print mix. Under my mentors at HER, I was able to broaden my technical skillset, while also creating unique designs which were commercially successful at trade shows. Show less

Whiston and Wright is a creative print design studio supplying the global fashion market. The role required designers to work to target-driven deadlines within a fast-paced and competitive environment. This experience developed my ability to design with design skills at pace while nurturing my creative techniques as I adapted to a variety of different briefs and seasonal colour schemes. At Ted Baker, I was the assistant to the lead menswear print designer. As a partnership we led menswear within the print department including researching for future collections, analysing trend and sales information to inform the direction and designing prints against internal deadlines. My day to day activities included recolouring and resizing prints, putting them into repeat, and ensuring we sent all the correct specifications out to the factories. I continually liaised with our suppliers, this included updating and sending out our print book. At Ted Baker I gained valuable experience in how to cope within a fast-paced and high pressured fashion company; our deadlines came thick and fast and their reputation for quality required us as employees to bring the utmost accuracy and attention to detail in our work. I also enjoyed the challenge of adapting my own style to fit the Ted Baker brand. Show less

JRC is a print design studio who provide prints for leading suppliers in the fashion market such as Topshop and ASOS. Here I developed my understanding of the commercial fashion industry, sizes, specifications and manufacturing techniques. Following briefs set by clients, I created high quality designs under strict time restraints. My skills ranged from recolouring designs, amending designs after feedback from clients. I assisted with admin tasks such as documenting fabric samples and was trusted to deliver samples to various clients around London. Achievements: My designs were included on the database and have been presented to many clients in response to their briefs. I excelled so much in my time there, I was invited to return for a second month. Show less

Working closely with their leading product designers, we discussed how to improve the patterns on some of their current products in Wilkinsons. Inspired by the season’s trends which we identified, I designed four alternate ironing board covers in my own style which are to be introduced into the Wilkinsons range. In week two I was encouraged to try something different, so I looked at fruit inspired designs for a stationary brief. I received training in Adobe Illustrator. Achievements: At W’innovate, each member of their small team each elects one individual to be taken on to their intern programme from New Designers. At New Designers I was hand chosen by their designer Rebecca Appleyard because of my commercial style which she felt would fit well into the Wilkinsons brand aesthetic. Show less

During my time at Hallmark I was given one brief a week for the time I was there. I was granted a lot of creative freedom, due to their confidence in my ability. I worked on both gift wraps and greetings cards and I was taught what was commercially viable for each. Achievements: After being hand picked by the team at New Designers, I was informed that my work was likely to go into their range the following year.
