    • Strategic Legal Counsel
      • May 2020 - Present

In this role, I support MBNL and our shareholders (EE and Three) with strategic legal advice both in respect of litigious challenges and commercial issues. One of my favourite parts of this job is that every day is different. A critical element of this role is having the ability to think on my feet, turn my mind to something I might not be immediately familiar with and think of creative and sensitive solutions to a wide range of challenges. Implementing strategy is one of the most interesting parts of my job - looking at statute, how that has been interpreted by case law, what topics have been left uncertain and how we might want to challenge those weak points. The strategic aspect of this role also requires me to look at the management of our portfolio as a whole - which sites are "sensitive" and might be subject to risk, identifying "pots" of sites that can be managed collectively, looking ahead at cost and time effective management strategies, health and safety challenges, In my day to day role I ensure that site upgrade activities, lease renewals and NTQ replacements are delivered to EE and Three‘s requirements under the terms of the revised Electronic Communications Code. In addition to that, I encounter site access challenges, small claims from suppliers/landlords/members of the public, health and safety issues, supply chain problems, judicial reviews on planning challenges, tackling incoming injunctions and everything in between. Solicitor working in the Property Litigation and Dispute Resolution team at Lester Aldridge. I manage a varied case load concerning both commercial and residential property disputes. This includes disputes relating to lease renewals, breach of covenants, protected tenancies, dilapidations, large scale developments and contract disputes. I regularly advise my clients on the use and occupation of land, including rights of way, adverse possession, rights to light and occupiers’ liability. I also advise on property related professional negligence claims and boundary disputes. Most recently, I have been advising a large telecommunications provider in relation to their lease rights under both the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954, the Communications Act 2003 and the impact of the highly anticipated Digital Economy Act 2017. I started my training contract foundations early and joined the Commercial Disputes team five months before my seat began to get a head start. I ended up staying in the department for the remainder of my training contract, working on Commercial Property cases, General Litigation, Commercial Disputes, Employment Law before moving to my final seat in Property Litigation. I spent some considerable time during my training contract focusing on Inheritance Act claims, boundary disputes, land actions and employment claims. I gained valuable and solid advocacy experience and attended a number of varied court proceedings, as well as successful mediations.I managed my own case-load of financial mis-selling claims, continuing healthcare claims (for which my Clinical Negligence background was useful) together with a healthy caseload of accelerated possession proceedings, unlawful eviction claims and tenancy deposit disputes. My case load as a Patent Paralegal in the the Electronics and Mechanics team centered around the life cycle of European, UK and foreign patents. I worked exclusively for a well known blue chip company, working alongside Patent Attorneys to register patents thereby protecting my clients designs and intellectual property. To protect a patent I would be required to file design specifications at the European Patent Office. My role included responding to official communications from the Patent Office and reporting our work back to the client. I was responsible for filing foreign patents and/or divisional applications for each patent specification according to the client’s instructions. Show less
