The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity, Heartlands Hospital Charity, Good Hope Hospital Charity and Solihull Hospital Charity are a group of four hospital charities working together under the umbrella of University Hospitals Birmingham Charity, registered charity number 1165716.The four hospital charities support patients, families and staff at their hospitals by providing 'added extras' that are over and above that which is provided by the NHS. The Charity’s mission is to see an improvement in the health and wellbeing of the community through the services provided by University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and to improve the experiences of all the people who use the hospitals of University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust in any capacity. The hospital charity exists to support medical and health research, and to encourage excellence in healthcare for patients and their carers, wholly or mainly through the services provided by University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.Together with your help we raise money to provide world-class facilities for patients and their families at the four hospital sites that go over and above what the NHS can provide. We spend your generous donations on items from cutting-edge equipment, new departments to toys and games for children at the hospitals.

Mary Stevens Hospice is a registered charity offering specialist high quality care for people living with cancer and other life shortening illnesses as well as dedicated support for their families and carers. The specialist care is tailored to each individual patient and their loved ones, and is provided either at the 10-bed In-Patient Unit or the Day Services Clinic. These services are provided completely free of charge to those who need them throughout the Dudley borough, as well as parts of South Staffordshire, Wyre Forest, Sandwell, Hereford and Worcester.Although we receive some funding from the Government, we rely on donations and fundraising from the local community to raise more than 80% of our £2.8 million annual running costs. These running costs are raised through fundraising in the community, special events and through our Lottery. We have to ensure that innovative income generation schemes both in our fundraising and Lottery departments deliver year on year to ensure we can continue to provide the high level of care needed by both our patients and their families. This year Mary Stevens Hospice is celebrating its 25th Anniversary and to celebrate we will be launching our Capital Appeal. We know for a fact that as people live longer the numbers needing our care is increasing as is the complexity of their conditions. In order to meet this increasing need we intend to develop the hospice facilities to be able to provide better care for more people. We have therefore set ourselves the goal of raising an additional £3.5million this year to expand our Day Services Unit to be able to provide care for many more people (potentially 70% more). The first million pounds has already been raised from our own resources and we are now appealing for the remaining £2.5 million. In order to continue making a difference to the lives of individuals affected by the work of Mary Stevens Hospice it is vital for this year's capital appeal to be a success.

Managed a £1million budget from the Wolverhampton Primary Care Trust and Premier League Football Association. Designed, delivered and rolled out in to all Primary Schools in Wolverhampton a number of health promotion programmes to target obesity in children between the ages of 3 and 11. Over 30,000 children received these programmes and this number is ever growing as the programmes are still being delivered to date. The programmes were adapted to suit children with both physical and learning disabilities to ensure the programmes were suitable for the maximum target audience possible. In 2010 the one of the programmes was awarded the Chief Medical Officers Public Health Award and in 2011 (http://www.networks.nhs.uk/news/food-dudes-wins-gold-at-chief-medical-officers-public-health-awards-2010) The West Midlands Health Promotion Award as well as the West Midlands Partnership working award in 2012.Brought together Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club and Wolverhampton Primary Care Trust to secure funding from the Premier League Football Association which enabled me to design and implement an additional health promotion programme to all of the Primary Schools within the Wolverhampton Catchment area. Secured coverage on National News on both BBC and ITV as well as a Community slot on BBC's Match of the Day and a Celebratory slot on Premier League World which is viewed by over 300 million people across the globe.
