At the max planck institute I have studied the formation of the plastically crystalline phase for 5 coordinate (allyl)M(PR3)3 compounds from group 9 and 10 transition metals. This was a fundamental research where the proof of principle needed to be achieved. The work required performing syntheses of highly sensitive compounds under inert atmosphere and at low temperatures. The challenge was to prepare and measure analytical samples under these extreme conditions.
