I worked 2 days a week clinically within Solent NHS Trust as a band 5 occupational therapist within the community physical occupational therapy team. The remaining 3 days a week were spent completing doctoral level research activities. Clinically I have also worked in the community learning disability team and Portsmouth Rehabilitation and Reablement team. My PhD thesis title is: Exploring the facilitators and barriers to meeting older adults' health literacy needs in clinical practice - First research study (complete): Are regularly accessed English language falls prevention websites aimed at the public meeting recommended reading levels for consumer healthcare materials? - Second research study (complete): What are the experiences of older adults with low and adequate health literacy levels attending falls clinics? - Third research study (complete): What are the views and experiences of health care professionals working with older adults about the development of health literacy? I have published in peer reviewed journals and presented my work at local, national and international conferences. I have also developed a health literacy seminar which has been delivered to both clinicians and undergraduate students. I completed the PhD in May 2016.
