  While working as an engineer, I always worried that I was not weighing design decisions properly, simply because I had a limited understanding of the operations and processes that came after my number-crunching and drawing had come to an end. After spending months on job sites for a series of technically challenging retail spaces as a construction consultant, I decided the best way to really understand the disciplines that ultimately made design a physical reality was to immerse myself, a sabbatical of sorts. I learned to weld, literally walked out the front door and in the back, and spent the last year and a half fabricating structural steel: layout, fit-up, and welding. From where I stood, it was often times painfully obvious why a given engineer had made a choice that made our lives difficult or near impossible. Some things simply don't translate well through the pages of college textbooks or building code. It was out of this insight that Jack Rabbit design, LLC was born.
