Charles was a top 1% officer. He excelled at every dimension of Army officership - leading, planning, executing - and earned the complete trust and confidence of his superiors, peers, and subordinates. It was widely known that no matter how complex the task, it would be accomplished in a manner that exceeded expectations if Charles owned it. So it came as no surprise that he was able to deliver best-in-class results in managing the entire logistics functions for a Patriot Missile Battalion spread across central Germany. Furthermore, Charles always made himself available to his peers and his soldiers - both of whom would come to him for guidance and mentorship because his opinions and perspectives were both trusted and respected. He was the definition of a team asset and I would have him on my team again in a heartbeat.

As the outgoing Battalion Logistics Officer, Charles facilitated a high level of continuity that helped my transition into my new role as the Battalion Logistics Officer in a manner that was extremely beneficial. In my time working with Charles, I saw three distinct skills that enabled him to be extremely successful, and in which I set out to emulate. First, Charles had great inter-personal skills and communication ability to support Units and Personnel in a clear and efficient manner. Charles was able to work and relate to all levels around him. Second, Charles had the ability to put structure around ambiguity by applying thought and creativity. This was evident in his superiors consistently giving him vague guidance on a number of tasks, and feeling comfortable that Charles would be able to not only meet but shape their intent. Finally, Charles had the ability to multi-task to a degree that his superiors felt Charles was enough of a force multiplier that he could be given increased responsibility to command a 100 soldier Unit as a junior Captain among other Captains more senior to him. Charles is truly an asset to any team, and I whole heartedly recommend him, particularly for roles involving high stress and ambiguity.
