  Protostudios is a state-of-art rapid-prototyping facility located at MERGE. Focusing on medical device and consumer product prototyping, this shop will train students, faculty, and academic entrepreneurs engaged in developing innovative products and launching new companies. MERGE is a 15,000 square foot facility located in the heart of the Ped Mall in downtown Iowa City. Protostudios is a 3500 sf prototyping hub with the main office and 3d printing facility located in MERGE and additional advanced prototyping facilities located in Van Allen Hall on university campus. Students will gain real-world engineering and product design experience through projects sponsored by Iowa companies. Faculty will have space close to campus for locating startups based on their cutting-edge research.
