I shadowed a five-day finding of fact hearing relating to an application for a child arrangements order. I was also given the opportunity to devil as I took notes for the barrister over the course of proceedings. I greatly enjoyed this focused engagement with the formalities, facts and points of law relating to the case. Awarded after winning the 1KBW Essay Competition. I gained insight into how advocacy at the Family Bar has adapted to remote working environments, and took part in an advocacy exercise where I prepared and delivered submissions on an application for an urgent child arrangements order. I gained experience of a spectrum of criminal hearings from plea and trial preparations at the Crown Court to summary hearings at the Magistrates’ Court. I also saw various stages of private children proceedings. Head of Staffing

Oct 2018 - Jun 2019
Oversaw the entire student staffing of the Jesus May Ball, including interviewing, hiring and contracting a team of 156 staff. In the run up to the Ball, this included both the training of the staff, which I led alongside a team, as well as the complex timetabling of each individual staff member which I organised and communicated myself. On the night, I supervised the staffing team which ensured the smooth running of the event, adapting and changing allocations as circumstances changed over the course of the Ball. Show less

Spent five days shadowing a barrister at a regional set, experiencing a variety of care cases and was given the opportunity to sit in with clients and research areas of Family Law at this early stage. On my final day, I shadowed a barrister involved in a case of small claims and saw the way in which mediation could resolve a case without the need for a hearing. I gained valuable insight into life at the Bar and this gave me the confidence to pursue this career interest while at University.
