Field Biology - Terrestrial Systems

• Delineated area wetlands within the Union County Park's system checking for water table levels, obligate and facultative vegetation, hydric soil and soil mottling to determine boundaries• Collected and identified 200 benthic macroinvertebrates samples and placed them in their respected categories within the Pollution Tolerance Index to determine water quality• Injected Japanese knotweed with herbicide to contain the invasive species within Echo Lake Park• Calculated conifer and hardwood density and DBH (Diameter at Breast Height) as well as the percentage understory and overstory along multiple transects• Determined salamander density in quadrats randomized throughout Watchung Reservation along Blue Brook• Produced multiple bird surveys observing specific bird species feeding, singing, wading and flying in parks within Union County• Studied mating calls for New Jersey native Passeriformes, Piciformes and Falconiformes bird species to easier locate them in a specific area
