Field Biology - Terrestrial Systems

• Delineated area wetlands within the Union County Park's system checking for water table levels, obligate and facultative vegetation, hydric soil and soil mottling to determine boundaries • Collected and identified 200 benthic macroinvertebrates samples and placed them in their respected categories within the Pollution Tolerance Index to determine water quality • Injected Japanese knotweed with herbicide to contain the invasive species within Echo Lake Park • Calculated conifer and hardwood density and DBH (Diameter at Breast Height) as well as the percentage understory and overstory along multiple transects • Determined salamander density in quadrats randomized throughout Watchung Reservation along Blue Brook • Produced multiple bird surveys observing specific bird species feeding, singing, wading and flying in parks within Union County • Studied mating calls for New Jersey native Passeriformes, Piciformes and Falconiformes bird species to easier locate them in a specific area Show less
