We believe improving the efficiency of water use in agriculture depends on matching off-farm improvements with incentives and technology transfer for on-farm investments in improved soil and water management and improved seeds. Hence, we lend assets and inputs including hybrid seeds, fertilizers, fungicides etc to smallholder farmers instead of cash and pair it up with an efficient irrigation service to ensure efficiency and productivity of water in agriculture. So far, 109 farmers have registered with Volta Irrigation, borrowing over $30k in inputs and asset with a repayment rate of 98 percent. As an added value, providing this bundle of goods and services together has also helped these farmers build their credit profiles to enable them to access capital to increase their productivity.
