This was my placement year, and during the year I worked within the product development and quality teams producing chilled and frozen ready meals. My main role was to carry out the daily taste panel, this required time management, leadership, organisation and product knowledge, as I led and organised the panel. Other tasks included: completing sample submission forms for a variety of different retailers, requiring good eye for detail and written communication skills; attending customer meetings with a variety of retailers, requiring a professional attitude, appearance and good verbal communication, as well as the ability to work under pressure. I also produced QAS's and line standards and collated raw material specifications from suppliers. Skills required were good written and verbal communication, an eye for detail, being thorough when completing paperwork, ability to work within a team as well as alone, and working under pressure. Customer Service Assistant

I worked on the checkouts and the food service counters, both of these roles included a lot of customer interaction. This meant that excellent verbal communication was needed. As well as interacting with customers I worked within a team to ensure the smooth running of the counters. This involved being flexible on which counter you worked on to cover breaks and stepping in to help if one counter was very busy. As this was shift work it was vital to be punctual so that you weren’t letting the rest of the team down. It was also important to keep the counters and the paperwork organised so that the next person knew exactly what they needed to do. One of my main roles was to do the baking in the mornings; this meant I had to manage my time well to make sure the bread was available for customers when the store opened. I also had to follow strict dating and stock rotation guidelines. Show less

I worked on checkouts which involved a large amount of customer interaction. This role required a high standard of customer service and verbal communication. I was also responsible for handling money and coupons. I was also trained to work on kiosk, which involved serving cigarettes and using a lottery machine. In this role I had to work as part of a team and be flexible, as well as use my own initiative when dealing with customers. The role involved cleaning catering classrooms at the end of the day, checking the equipment is operating correctly and preparing specific equipment for the next day’s practical sessions. I worked within a team and we were responsible for creating our own rotas and ensuring that jobs were completed. This required good organisation and teamwork.
