    • Learning Support Assistant
      • May 2017 - Present

As a Learning Support Assistant in an academically high-achieving but non-selective school, I strive to meet the specific learning needs of four students aged 11 - 13. I provide a variety of support, based on their individual needs, which include severe dyslexia and ASD, both directly and by supporting teacher-led lessons. I provide additional guidance, clarification and explanation of topics which have been misunderstood or activities which they struggle to complete. I differentiate my approach to teaching in order to help them learn in appropriate ways, and to subsequently maximise their retention of the content. I also deliver one-to-one sessions in which I provide specific educational support in the subjects and activities they require most. In some cases, this involves teaching the KS3 curriculum in both History and Geography. In other cases, I provide dyslexia- and dyspraxia-friendly approaches to learning, spelling and revision. I regularly communicate with parents regarding their children’s weekly progress; this requires a diplomatic approach to the correct representation of the positives and negatives of the week, in addition to suggestions for home initiatives. My consistent supervision and guidance of these pupils has also had a marked effect on their wider learning behaviour, as they are more able to access class content. Numerous teachers have noted the wider benefit to their class that results from my work as an LSA. In addition to the specific students under my supervision, I am able to assist other students within their classes who may require further differentiation of content; teachers have noted that students benefitting in this way have also shown improvement in focus and achievement.

    • Pool Supervisor
      • Oct 2016 - Present

As Pool Supervisor, my time is spread across any of the businesses within the area wherever management is required, either on individual days or a semi-permanent basis. This can result in long and unpredictable hours, and requires high levels of commitment and flexibility. I completed my 12-week supervisor training in just 6 weeks, and have continued to push myself to excel in this job role. I am entrusted with complete responsibility for shifts and the business, and often single-handedly take responsibility for complete business days. I am highly sociable, allowing me to command the respect and confidently lead ever-changing teams. Food and hygiene standards are extremely high and my responsibilities include ensuring that these are met and exceeded; I achieved 98% on my Food Safety Course and use this knowledge to instruct my teams accordingly. My personal customer service abilities are exceptional and aid in increasing sales and growing the business further.

      • Sep 2013 - Oct 2016

I began working part-time as a barmaid and waitress alongside my Masters’ degree, and on its completion increased to full-time hours, working up to and often in excess of 48 hours a week (and up to 6 days per week). The hours are long and unsociable, however, I complete my work with exceptional customer service and work ethic and resultantly was promoted to Team Leader in March 2015. This dramatically increased my responsibilities and now includes administrative and financial capacities, as well as cellar management and running teams and shifts. Additionally, I am completing Albert’s Award which is the theoretical course run in conjunction with my promotion. As of July 2015 I took on the role of Christmas Sales Coordinator, which included extra hours in order to attract custom, organising bookings, payment and food orders, running the bookings, and dealing with dietary requirements or complaints as they arose. I was incredibly successful in this role and beat cover target of 2100 (15% increase on last year) by a further 41 covers! I am fully kitchen trained, and have increasingly split my time between running front of house, and kitchen shifts. Following the resignation of our kitchen manager, my responsibilities further increased to include weekly stock take, ordering and deliveries and the running of the kitchen and its team more akin to a second chef position.

In January 2015, I graduated with a Masters Degree in International Security from the University of Warwick. I completed modules in Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism, the CIA, New Security Challenges, Approaches to International Security. I also wrote a Dissertation on the War on Drugs and how it affected International Security. I was particularly proud of the cyberterrorism essay I wrote discussing it's existence, the issues with it, and the need for it's definition to be ascertained more specifically, before it can be truly defeated.

Achieved a BA (Hons) in History and Politics (2:1). In my third year I studied the History of Globalisation, as well as Britain's War on Terror, and US Foreign Policy. My dissertation focused on the Private Military Industry and it's impacts on US National Security. I remained at Warwick and am now studying for a MA in International Security, as well as learning basic Arabic. I hope to enter into the law enforcement and/or the Security industry on the completion of my studies.

I was charged with the primary care of 2 bilingual boys, aged 3 and 5, for up to 12 hours per day, 4 days a week. I also had some housework duties and food preparation concurrently. I had to communicate with their friends and family in a rural area with limited English-speaking, which I managed competently. I have since been asked back for a longer duration this summer, which I feel is reflective of my good work as well as the great rapport I developed with the boys. This position entailed the cleaning of the kitchen as well as all of the equipment and restaurant crockery, and glasses during the very busy summer period. Hours were often long and very unsociable and the pressure to work quicky in a stressful environment.
