Mellon’s Public Knowledge program supports the creation and preservation of the cultural and scholarly record—vast and ever-expanding—that documents society’s complex, intertwined humanity. The program works with archives, presses, and a range of university, public, and other local, national, and global libraries that are foundational to knowledge production and distribution in culture and the humanities. As a program associate in the Public Knowledge program, I support the pre-and post-award management of approximately $40 million in annual grantmaking, with a particular focus on assisting first-time grantees from traditionally marginalized and underfunded institutions. I also review the narrative and financial reports and facilitate modification requests for a portfolio of over 100 active grant projects totaling over $80 million. Show less

As a graduate student intern, I surveyed 200+ grant reports from to determine which Georgia counties had not received grants in recent years. I also supported the Director of Communications in preparing content for Georgia Humanities’ annual Governor’s Awards for the Arts and Humanities. New American Pathways is an Atlanta based nonprofit with the mission of Helping Refugees and Georgia Thrive. New AP's vision is for new Americans in metro Atlanta to become successful, contributing, and welcomed members of Georgia’s communities. As a curriculum developer for New AP's two middle school after school programs, I developed after-school literacy and enrichment curriculum that aligned with state ELA content standards for 70+ middle school refugee youth. I also planned and led lessons for two, 4-week long summer camps for middle and high school students. These lessons ranged from art, theater, writing, to science experiments and support in arithmetic. Show less

The Humanity in Action John Lewis Fellowship brings together international groups of university students and recent graduates for an intensive summer program focused on diversity and civil rights in America. The HIA John Lewis Fellowship focuses on the relationship between majority and minority groups, with a particular emphasis on issues of diversity in Georgia and the American South. During the fellowship, I researched and wrote memo outlining Atlanta’s unaffordable housing crisis in juxtaposition with the Atlanta Beltline’s newest housing developments. Intern in African American History
-
Jun 2016 - Jul 2016
The Program in African American History brings together scholars and interested members of the public to explore and discuss every aspect of the experience of people of African descent in the Americas from the beginnings of European colonization through 1900. As an Intern, I worked under the guidance of Dr. Erica Armstrong Dunbar to produce a 15 to 20-page research paper on gendered rhetoric in documents promoting black American emigration to Haiti in the 1820s. Handled and transcribed primary source archival documents in The Library Company’s African Americana collection. Show less
