In 2017, I supervised Chance on a school project at Presidio where as a part of team of two he inventoried public and private sector financial models for funding sustainable supply chain initiatives and provided recommendations to The Cheesecake Factory’s Sustainability Team. Chance showed strong communication and relationship management skills with internal and external stakeholders, conducting case interviews with industry leaders shifting to sustainable and socially responsible sourcing. His work products were well-organized and impactful, and I was glad to have him assist us. Chance will bring strong strategic thinking and diligence to any team he is a part of.

I have very high praise for Chance. He interned for the Beyond Coal Campaign's Eastern Region in the Spring of 2014, and he did stellar work for us. Chance is incredibly smart, picking up on wonky and arcane policy and technical issues quickly; he provided high-quality polished work - and did so in short-order; while motivated and excited by the big-picture issues, Chance was also very attentive to details. No task was too big or too small for him to take on. Chance Cutrano is going places! Whether he moves into the private sector, government, or stays in the NGO arena - I know that he will be a hard-working, thoughtful, creative, and effective leader for change. And we will sorely miss him here at the Sierra Club.

Teaching assistant for Dr. Khalid Kadir, former provost of Presidio Graduate School and esteemed professor at University of California, Berkeley--Chancellor’s Public Scholar (2013); Chancellor’s Award for Public Service for Service-Learning Leadership (2014); UC Berkeley Lecturer’s Teaching Fellow (2015-16); Recipient of the 2017 Distinguished Teaching Award, UC Berkeley’s most prestigious honor for teaching; Recipient of Presidio Graduate School's Outstanding MBA Faculty award (2019).Together, Dr. Kadir and I are instructing and facilitating the learning for two sections of a political economy class entitled: "Economy and Society: Governance and Business." We explore the history of economic growth in the 20th and 21st centuries, including how it was made possible as well as the social and environmental costs of this growth. We consider the alternative frameworks, both old and new, that promise to create a more socially just, sustainable world. Moving from the macro to the micro, and stemming from a belief that sustainable change must be intersectoral, we then investigate how governments, through law, policy, and regulation, shape social and economic space in an attempt to balance the needs of individuals with society at large. Finally, we consider how socially just, sustainable solutions might engage with the political-economic systems of today and tomorrow.Role:• Lecturing on multisector stakeholder engagement, politics, power, and systems of governance and business.• Organizing office hours with students as they think creatively about the context and sector of work they are exploring and researching.
