As a member and social media coordinator of Dr. Lashewicz’s Creating and Renewing Equity Through Research (CaRER) Lab I worked on four distinct areas of study: 1) Moral distress and injury in long-term care (LTC) workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. o Recruited for and conducted the majority of semi-structured interviews with long term care workers, policy makers, and family members of residents in LTC settings (n=150) o Led the creation and production of the animated video ‘We needed help but we were supposed to be the help’ as an aspect of the study’s knowledge translation mandate. o Condensed and presented research findings at webinars for health care providers and policy makers as lead author of the Healthcare Excellence Canada-commissioned report ‘Staffing in Long-Term Care During the Covid-19 Pandemic: Insights, Lessons, and Paths Forward’. 2) Dignity of identity for people with dementia living in residential care settings. o Led the authorship of the peer-reviewed article ‘Dementia and Dignity of Identity: A Qualitative Evidence Synthesis’ 3) The treatment of people with disabilities presenting with ischemic stroke in acute care settings when compared to the treatment of people without disabilities. o Collaborated with health care providers to critique ableist standards of ‘success’ for stroke treatment. 4) The factors that lead to family cohesion or breakdown following a spinal cord injury. o Provided support to a colleague by developing a critical disability studies theoretical framework to guide the presentation of their findings.
