    • SEED Team- Solar Decathlon United States 2019 (Winner)
      • Sep 2018 - May 2019

SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry and Syracuse University joined as Syracuse Energy Efficient Design (SEED) team to participate in the U.S Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon collegiate competition's 2019 Design Challenge. Our team is designing a highly efficient, innovative and resilient multi-use multifamily net zero building in Syracuse, New York. The project proposal can be accessed through the team's website: https://sites.google.com/view/syracuse-seed/Project/introduction?authuser=0 As an Energy Team member I have been involved in the following tasks: • Collaborating with other teams to design a market ready mixed-used, mixed income multifamily Net Zero building to satisfy new development needs of Syracuse while achieving the competition’s energy targets • Strategizing demand side management program with teams and industry partners to reduce plugs and appliance loads in order to maintain residents’ energy demand at Passiv Haus, LEED and DOE standards • Creating lighting and electrical plans by selecting Energy Star fixtures to optimize lighting and energy efficiency while ensuring affordability, resiliency and comfort for intended residents • Consulting with the Syracuse Housing Authority when integrating design parameters to ensure affordability, resiliency and comfort for intended residents Lastly, our team received recognition and approval from Syracuse’s Mayor Ben Walsh in adopting the building in Syracuse’s housing and economic redevelopment. After winning the Mixed-Used Multi-Family division of the competition, our team is still dedicated to improve the building design and present it to the Syracuse Housing Authority and the Mayor for possible development.

    • Sustainable Materials Management Steward
      • Jan 2018 - May 2018

The goal of this internship was to develop a project working on an innovative strategy to change society's relationship with a material of social, economic and environmental importance in a sustainable manner. To prepare I completed training on learning about principles of sustainable materials management and diverting the definition of waste materials to productive re-utilization. Finally, for my team and I's Sustainable Materials Management Stewardship Project goal was to introduce people of all ages to the benefits of using less materials and producing less waste. Instead of our audience being just children or adults, we focused on families working together to reduce their waste, and created the program “A Family Approach to Reducing Waste”. This workshop focused on different ways that families can work together to reduce their waste, save money and reduce their impact on the environment. The workshops took place at three libraries, Cazenovia Public Library in Cazenovia, NY, Manlius Public Library in Manlius, NY and LaFayette Public Library in LaFayette, NY. More on the project details can be seen under projects.
