Water Manager Specialist
-
Apr 2019 - Present
The water authorities coordinate Sweden's work for better water. We have a holistic perspective, a local perspective and weigh together different societal benefits. Five county administrative boards have been appointed by the government to be the water authority in their respective water districts. The task of the water authorities is to implement the EU Water Framework Directive. For us in Sweden, it is a matter of course to get fresh running water directly from the tap. But access to clean water requires joint and extensive work both within and outside Sweden. Sweden is divided into five water districts and a county administrative board in each water district is appointed as the water authority. Counties and municipalities can belong to more than one water district. In each district there is a water delegation that makes the water authority's decisions. The water authorities shall manage the quality of the aquatic environment within each water district. This means, among other things, that the water authorities: * Revises management plan and action program for the water district. * Decides on environmental quality standards * Coordinates water management work within the district. * Collaborates nationally, regionally and locally with stakeholders in water management. * Provides information to the Swedish Maritime Administration for further reporting to the European Commission. We have three tools for the work of managing Sweden's waters: * Management plan * Environmental quality standards * Action program These three tools are connected and revised before each six-year cycle. Before the proposals for the management plan, environmental quality standards and action programs are decided, a consultation will take place for six months. Then everyone, both private individuals and organizations and authorities, are welcome to comment. Show less

My research focuses on polar ecology and comparative immunology of breeding populations of birds. Specifically, to determine for populations residing in similar habitats across different latitudes: 1) how the immune system responds to differential pathogen loads 2) the relationship between pathogen load and density of breeding populations and 3) the effect of human-related stress on populations differently habituated to human presence. The general approach involves mapping an individuals’ immune system using immunological techniques routinely employed in microbial ecology, virology and veterinary science. Show less
