I am currently acting as our office's SPOC for the integration of our day-to-day processes into Pike's greater database and workflow management system. In the Mapping Department we synthesize GIS and AutoCAD to create plats, site plans, and basemaps which engineers can design on. We recently completed a railroad permitting project in which we utilized LiDAR data to visualize a work site in 3D and take lat, long, and elevation measurements where underground conduits are to be installed. Our Mapping Department has been tasked with a myriad of creative projects such as designing and printing professional brochures for storm work and potential employees, designing a floor plan for a new office space, stitching satellite imagery for wall-sized high-resolution prints. Interviewed and hired two additional full-time GIS/CAD Technicians to bolster our new Mapping Department. After three months of training both technicians were fully productive and able to perform the following duties: QGIS Shapefile rectification according to 2017 aerial imagery; GIS to AutoCAD file conversion; construction of a project-specific X-REF file structure; title document comprehension and mapping; homeowner, overall, and conservation plat creation; and research and development in QGIS and AutoCAD for our department's purposes.Through the utilization of Feature Servers and Map Servers, we streamlined our methods for procuring and utilizing County GIS information using QGIS 3.0. We also developed a system for using AutoCAD X-Refs to allow multiple technicians to work on the same project at once. This increased our project's scalability and allowed us to cross-train GIS technicians and keep up workplace productivity. As a 3-Technician team we created a processes document, a PowerPoint Presentation for new hires, and a brochure for the Sterling-Dulles UC Synergetic Office. Drafted a floor plan for a new workspace to accommodate our growing office.Performed wire-watching duties after March Nor'easter wind storms damaged Northern Virginia's electrical grid. Show less

I worked closely with Dr. Samuel Stebbins MD, MPH to assess rates of childhood obesity within Arlington’s school system and visualize that data in a way that was informative to policy makers, and also adhered to the privacy of individuals included in the study. My responsibilities included handling sensitive health information, keeping any findings confidential until the information was released to the public, empirically manipulating measures of BMI, and recording the process so our final reports could withstand scientific scrutiny. The internship fulfilled the requirements of my GIS Capstone project and culminated in a 31-page report and presentation of the methods and findings used to visualize the distribution and magnitude of childhood obesity in Arlington, VA. The purpose of the internship was to determine abundance and distribution of zooplankton species in the Gulf of Mexico prior to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill in 2010. Zooplankton samples were split and scanned using a Hydroptic Zooscanner and associated Zooprocess software. I consolidated a 120 page Zooscan & Zooprocess manual into a workable list of directions that could easily be followed by future interns. The internship culminated in a research cruise in which I was a research assistant. My responsibilities on the research cruise included support for seawater chemistry and zooplankton collection and processing of seawater chemistry samples. Show less
