I worked as a Special Education teacher from grade 5-8. I worked with the Special Education team to create educational programs and plans that helped each child grow and develop best. I used programs like Wilson to help students develop their reading and phonemic awareness while pairing with the general educators to differentiate instruction and create dynamic lessons for all learners. Aug 2015 - Jun 2016
I worked with the librarians of the school to create Literary Workshops in English from third to sixth grades. I also worked to develop grade specific curriculum to promote literacy engagement. I was responsible for the “English” radio station at school, which entailed editing scripts written by the students, checking for content, pronunciation and to teach American culture to promote the cultural connection with English. I developed a web site for the students to practice English at home and to promote technology in education as well as created an SAT prep program to assist the students with writing skills. My other role at the school was lead English teacher for the seventh graders, which entailed planning and executing dynamic lessons to engage the students not only in the language itself, but also the cultural nuances and influences on English. Educated students from ages 5-50 English as a foreign language and developed age specific activities to introduce English vocabulary. As a PCV, I created a workshop for educators on how to effectively use activities to enhance the educational experience, taught English as a second language to achieve a “B2” level, co-taught English to students from 1 to 10 grades, trained future primary teachers English teaching techniques, and taught English to teachers/administrators to enhance both verbal and written English. I also worked with teenage girls to teach women’s empowerment, sex education, women’s leadership via Youth Development camps and weekly empowerment groups. Show less
