      I was promoted to Associate in July 2016 which brought with it increased responsibility for project leadership and management. Highlights included acting as Project Leader for the upgrade and extension of the Wellington Wastewater Treatment Works (WWTW) (R350 million project), the Remix Demonstration Plant (R400 million project) and the upgrade and extension of the Gammams WWTW in Windhoek (R500 million project which will be implemented as a Design-Build-Operate contract). I managed a dedicated team of three young engineers as well as much larger multi-disciplinary teams on a project-basis. I also liaised with clients, financial institutions, government departments, external consultants and other project stakeholders and was responsible for technical coordination and management of project programmes and finances.

      As a civil engineer in training, and later as a professionally registered engineer, I was exposed to a wide variety of projects in water resources, planning, bulk water supply and wastewater treatment across all stages of the project lifecycle from conceptualization to implementation. Highlights included the following: - Design flood analyses, hydrology and system modelling for dam and hydropower projects in Nigeria, Angola, Cameroon, Guinea, Liberia, Kagera River Basin, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania and South Africa- Water resources planning including reconciliation strategies, water balances and options analysis- Financial modelling and tariff studies for water and wastewater projects- Conceptual design, planning and options analysis for WWTW projects including multi-criteria decision analysis and financial analysis (capital and lifecycle costing)- Preliminary and detailed design of WWTW projects including process, hydraulic and civil design as well as coordination with structural, electrical and mechanical teams in developing integrated solutions - Preparation of tender documentation (GCC and FIDIC), support during tender process, tender evaluation and dealing with municipal supply chain management procedures and requirements- Full time construction monitoring (assistant resident engineer for 9 months at Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Works in Vereeniging)
