Catherine has been a great inspiration to my son over the last 3 years and such a great support for him. I would recommend Catherine in any capacity listed throughout her resume and anyone considering alternative education for their teen would do well with Catherine and her teen. I highly recommend Lighthouse! Good Luck Catherine and Thank-you for all you do! Sass Family

My business partner and I, Josiah Litant, created a new educational alternative in Holyoke, MA called LightHouse Holyoke. lighthouseholyoke.org LightHouse offers personalized education for teens aged 13-18. Based on the North Star model which is now in use by 10 centers across North America, LightHouse supports teens to create the future of their choice and learn what they love.

    • Program Director
      • Sep 2003 - Jun 2015

I was involved in every aspect of leading our small nonprofit. My chief responsibility was building and running the program, which entailed recruiting, training, and managing a staff of 30 or more staff, volunteers, and interns, and developing and scheduling a course calendar. In addition I worked closely with teens and families as an advisor, and taught more than 20 courses over 12 years. I envisioned, organized, and built our community garden, and I developed, organized, and led eight international service trips with teens from our program. I also managed our 6000 sq ft , building and facility for many years. I worked closely with our outreach director on projects and fundraisers throughout the year, and I managed our media presence through the website and social media. I filmed and edited dozens of videos as well as documented and shared our work through photos. I wrote a weekly program blog for many years, in addition to external blog writing about our field. I also created, developed, and organized our quarterly e-newsletter. I was a founding member of our board of director's development team and led all in-house development projects including donor relations, storytelling, and social media. I led one major ($25,000 +) fundraiser per year and closely supported two other major fundraisers. You can read a longer description of my responsibilities in the attached document. Show less
