Bio
Dr. Neil Gilbride CPsychol
A thoroughly engaging and caring lecturer. Unlike many in the HE sector, she possessed fantastic teaching skills. She was at ease explaining difficult concepts in a way which was accessible to different learners. Furthermore, her courses and lectures reinforced the core concepts in a manner which consistently developed a students' fluency and mastery of these skills. She was highly thought of by my graduating year as a wonderful educator and person.
Kim Morrison FCIM FCMI
Catherine was a pleasure to work with on the Census 2011. Her positive attitude, adaptability, good problem solving skills in a fast moving environment and great work ethic contributed to a high return in her area. She also demonstrated excellent people management skills, motivated her team well, managed the outcomes and workload effectively and dealt swiftly to 'nip in the bud' human resource issues. I would not hesitate to recommend Catherine as a high calibre, professional manager with an excellent skill base.

Team Captain: Major Walk
-
Jul 2013 - Aug 2013
I walked very far for Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust on July 27/28 as part of Trailwalker 2013. I led Team Major Walk and tackled a 100km trek. Non-stop. No sleep. In under 30 hours... Over £1500 raised for the named charities, and one torn knee ligament acquired. I walked very far for Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust on July 27/28 as part of Trailwalker 2013. During my 3-year postdoctoral research project, I was part of a team investigating sexual dimorphisms in the developing brain. The findings of my research led to a number of interesting discoveries about the neuro-anatomy and -endocrinology of the male and female brains and their role in sexual orientation, traits and behaviours. Investigating the role of proglucagon products in the control of appetite. Within Steve Bloom's laboratory, my research focused on the gut-derived proglucagon product, oxyntomodulin (OXM) which I found to have marked anorectic actions, signalling satiety directly to hypothalamic nuclei: http://endo.endojournals.org/content/145/6/2687.full The findings led to successful clinical trials. Further actions were investigated by the company, Thiakis, which was then bought by US-based Wyath (http://imperialinnovations.co.uk/node/367) and then, more recently, Pfizer. There is an optimistic aim for a longer-acting OXM derivative to reach the market (prescription only) within the next 5 years. Show less
