Kendra L. Smith, Ph.D.

Cassandra was in my class while she was at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. During that time, I got to know Cassandra and I came to admire her for her passion, kindness, and will to be successful. In class, she always went above and beyond. She is detailed-oriented, steadfast, and always willing to go the extra mile. In addition to all of her other great attributes, Cassandra is a truly kind and energetic person. It was a pleasure to have her in my class and I look forward to all that she will do in the future!

Paz de Cristo is dedicated to alleviating hunger and homelessness in the EastValley and Phoenix area. The goal of the project was to meet the current needs of the Paz de CristoCommunity Center by proposing a renovation project for the dining room. The grant funds helped to buy new, hand-made, industrial tablecloths to provide the guests with a resource that makes them feel welcomed and at home. In addition to the tablecloths, I also used donations and grant funds to upgrade the garden to produce healthy, fresh food to be used in the evening meal service. By establishing a larger, beautified garden, the children that are guests at Paz now have a place to play, engage in gardeningactivities, and learn the importance of nutrition. I developed and executed this project on my own and received donations from Tree Land Nurseries Inc. and 15 Home Depots around the valley. Show less
