In this role I project managed the development of novel modular inverter designs from inception toprototype testing, including:- Novel circuit design and simulation modelling.- Control system design- PCB layout, fabrication, and prototype testing.I also managed the laboratory testing and maintenance of a 1.5 kV/15 kVA Modular Multilevel Converter(MMC) for rapid control prototyping. Responsibilities included:- Implementing health and safety protocols and completing risk assessments.- Tuning measurement devices.- Upgrading control system software.- Producing device user-manuals and maintaining documentation.

The goal of my PhD was to investigate circuit innovation of multilevel power converters for mediumvoltage DC systems. This research involved:- Development of dynamic switching-based simulation models of a variety of multilevel power-converters,such as the Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC).- Research on the application of power converters in smart grid applications, such as multi-terminal DCnetworks, STATCOM and soft-open points.- Design and dimensioning of power converters for improved power density and efficiency.- Proposal and publication of novel converter topologies and control architectures.- Analysis of DC power quality and design of passive and active DC power filters for multilevel power-converters.Worked in collaboration with a team of researchers at Zhejiang University, which culminated in a three-month research visit to Hangzhou, China where I worked to develop an experimental prototype.Regularly presented my research to internal colleagues and also presented at the 2018 and 2019 HVDCColloquium and IPEC 2022 Himeji, Japan.
