the biggest 'Black led' Housing Association in Europe and has a Care Directorate which provides supported housing in the form of 5 Mental Health Care Homes (two of which include attached independent living schemes), 5 Elderly living communities and over 200 units of supported accommodation for young people in the community. I was responsible for 71 staff and an annual budget of £ 3.7m. During this period, my key contributions were; Total management review and restructuring of care and support service portfolio. Financial turnaround from £300k deficit to £300k surplus through contract negotiations within 2 financial years. Led small consortium bids to central government which attracted £30k of additional funding for NVQ training. This service won the National BME Spark Award in 2005 Established a social enterprise business (Scotch Bonnet Catering) that provides training and employment for service users with Mental Health and Learning disabilities. 'Oremi' offers a range of services to African and Caribbean mental health service users and carers. The services range from Assertive Outreach team, Day Centre, and Advice and Information; and provide culturally sensitive support to this people with severe and enduring mental health problems. In 2000 Oremi won Best Organisation Category in the Kensington and Chelsea African Caribbean Mental Health Awards. Recruited and managed a team of Mental Health Workers (10) who provide services to 150 plus users of Mental Health Services. Responsible for an annual budget of £ 263,000 Designed and delivered a flexible mental health service for African & Caribbean people with severe and enduring mental health problems that is highly valued by users and rated by the Kings Fund Evaluation of the service in 2000 Devised and delivered an innovative mental health awareness training programme for the local African and Caribbean community. Managed the delivery of the Day Centre element of the service from design to opening. Negotiated additional funding of £66K to deliver a building that is culturally welcoming. Negotiated the Oremi Service Level Agreement contract and targets with Local Authority service commissioners. Developed monitoring systems that provide quality Business information on performance and trends. Show less
