I have known Casey for all of his life and have watched him mature and develop over the years. His passion for politics aligned to a deep sense of social justice has melded over time and he is now at a perfect stage in his evolution to be involved at 'the sharp end'. He has now matched theory with reality and his desire to be employed in industry reflects his sense of purpose - he can and will make a difference given the right platform. No employer will be disappointed.

      • Carrying out climate policy research on behalf of Fuel Change. • Identifying and uncovering emerging trends, analysing existing climate policy, and formulating research papers which inform and help to drive effective responses to climate change. • Always "following the tonnes" with respect to climate policy research; ascertaining how we as a planet can move toward Net Zero as quickly as possible.

    • EU Exit Legislation Assistant
      • Jun 2019 - Aug 2019

      • Assisting with key Brexit legislation (specifically the Continuity Bill) from a Scottish Government perspective in the lead up to EU withdrawal. Gained a valuable insight into devolved governance, policymaking, and intergovernmental relations post-devolution. • Participated with colleagues in formulating a regular briefing/manifest on the state of Conservative leadership race on behalf of the First Minister. Helped contextualise my work, making it more concise for readability, and keeping to time constraints. • Carry out individual research to accommodate the instruction of superiors (salient issues related to EU withdrawal). • Attended committee hearings in the Scottish Parliament on Citizens’ Assemblies, taking notes on proceedings and sitting in on media briefings afterward; a brilliant experience which gave an incredible insight into the day-to-day operation of policymaking at the heart of Scottish politics. • Writing up and posting daily morning briefings around the faculty on the leadership race and daily political events. Required me to watch hustings events and remain intensely informed of political developments around the clock. • Left St Andrew's House with much greater confidence in my abilities and understanding of public policy and governance structures. • Alex Neil MSP Constituency Office

    • Office Assistant
      • Jun 2018 - Jun 2018

      • Spent two weekends working in Alex Neil MSP's constituency office to gain insight into the local daily operations of an MSP and their staff. I was able to carry out tasks typical of a local MSP's office. • Able to witness (and partake in the receiving end of) local democracy in action. Whether that be inputting data from a petition; calling constituents who had issues ('cases'), ensuing their concerns are addressed and closing said ‘cases’. • Was able to produce and submit press releases on behalf of the office. Allowed me to directly participate in the communications aspect of local politics. Show less

      • Worked away from home in London, greatly boosted self-confidence and personal skills whilst networking with fellow employees. Had regular meeting with heads of faculties for organised 'chats' to discuss their side of the business. • Conducting social media research on behalf of Portland’s clients, created bios on potential clients and MPs, and drafting letters to high profile individuals (e.g. members of the House of Lords). Again, improved literary and timekeeping skills. • Helped gain insight into the operations of a high-octane office and applying my own personal skills. • Returned for a week in 2017. Was able to build on what I learned the year prior and integrate much better accordingly. • More emphasis this time on independent research on behalf of clients, given more individual autonomy and thus responsibility in that regard to draft reports and client analysis.
