Competency-Based Learning Math Curriculum Specialist
-
Jul 2019 - Jul 2022
As a Competency-Based Learning Specialist, I developed district-wide policies and processes to drive next-generation education in Denver Public Schools, the largest school district in Colorado, serving 207 schools and 93,000 students. I helped launch a new competency-based learning program across 38 high schools. On the training side, I developed and facilitated programs to help leaders and teachers better understand and implement this new program. I also designed and facilitated virtual and in-person math professional learning for hundreds of K-12 math teachers, coaches and leaders. We helped math teachers improve their teaching practice and math coaches upgrade the support they offered DPS teachers, all in service of more equitable outcomes for DPS students. Show less

Math Teacher/Department Chair
-
Jul 2011 - May 2014
At KIPP, I taught 5th and 6th Grade Math for three years. As Math department chair, I set a vision for a team of 10 teachers and support staff that led students to make significant gains on their MAP and TCAP scores, including MAP scores that placed my class in the top 3 5th Grade Math classes in the KIPP network. My responsibilities included planning and leading our weekly content meetings, weekly observations and coaching of all math teachers at our school, supporting our new teachers as they transitioned to a new curriculum, and guiding our staff to prepare for the Common Core instructional shifts for the upcoming school year. My students made an average of 2.5 years growth in a single year with me in all three of my years at KIPP Sunshine Peak Academy. Show less
