I oversee the day to day management and curation of our many samples and collections. I provide access for visitors to our core repository and manage requests to view and sample our geological materials housed in the repository. I also help with data management and meta data collection related to samples and am currently developing procedures for creating geologic logs from our cuttings collections. My research focused on developing a new method for provenance studies of the sedimentary record. We aimed to establish a method coupling detrital zircon and detrital apatite U-Pb geochronology to better determine igneous input into the detritus of modern rivers. The second goal of my research was to better understand the controls on the amount and types of sediment input in modern river systems by simulating detrital zircon signatures and comparing them to actual detrital zircon signatures from modern river sands from the area the modern river systems drain. I prepared well cuttings for logging and future storage at the IGS core facility, as well as participating in field work monitoring well water levels throughout the eastern and northern part of Iowa. I also contributed to the IGS's efforts to locate old wells using well logs and aerial photos in GIS and updating their online well-log database (GEOSAM) to include these improved records. My research focused on gathering detrital zircon ages from several units of Cenozoic strata in the Canadian Rockies. I prepared and processed multiple samples for detrital zircon separation and analyzed these samples using a LA-ICP-MS at the University of South Carolina.
