Director of First Year Writing
-
Aug 2019 - Present
As Director of First Year Writing, I design departmental curricula for the diverse group of 100+ professors and 6000+ students who take part in our first-year composition courses each year (our students are the best!) I also work with professors on their own curricula, run professional development seminars, run assessments, develop and maintain program websites, administrate the FYW program and liaise with other related departments to keep our writing program strong.

Assistant Professor
-
Aug 2018 - Present
As a professor at City Tech, my responsibilities are threefold: teaching, service and scholarship. I mostly teach in the First Year Writing (FYW) program, including teaching semester-long seminars for faculty teaching FYW, to make sure we are all up-to-date on the latest pedagogies for our diverse and vibrant student body. My service is mostly centered around my administrative position as the Director of First Year Writing (described above). My research is centered around how trauma and duress affect our ability to pay attention to literacy learning. More on this can be found on my website: drcarriehall.com

I worked at both Foothill and De Anza Community Colleges, teaching multiple Composition courses, from Basic Reading and Basic Writing, to Critical Reading, Writing and Thinking. I also helped design a new year-long basic writing/ transfer-level Composition course that included a co-requisite. This curriculum had to pass through California state governance.
